Crimson Altar

I came across this image today that I did ages ago for Little Shoppe of Horrors magazine. It was done totally in Manga Studio - pencils and inks. An early experiment using the application. Looking at it now I quite like it and thought it good enough for the blog. I ying and yang over Manga Studio and tend to use it for effects work more these days , inking an image originally with a pen. Does it make a difference? to me it does - I see myself falling into routines of inking with MS - chance becomes less of a factor and chance can make a drawing sometimes. It does have some great features though like perspective rulers , tones and sfx never mind lettering! But like anything it's a tool and not the answer to everything especially when it comes to getting your heart down on the page ...

  1. Nice use of shadows. I like the character, too. (I must invest in Little Shoppe one of these days, it sounds intriguing.)
Good to see you explain when you use Manga Studio and when you use traditional. I've been wondering how you choose

  2. There's some unnecessary shading on her chest and cuffs that I'd of think twice about inking on paper now that I look at it. There's certainly a conversation over beers about Manga Studio versus traditional. Shame there's no Pubcon this year Paul.:(
